How to play Drawzle

Draw-and-guess is one of those games everyone understands in ten seconds: one person draws, the others guess. Drawzle puts it on your phone so nobody has to hunt for paper or pass a marker around. Here is the full guide.

1. Create the room

One person opens Drawzle, types their name and taps "Create room". A 4-letter code appears. Everyone else joins from their own phone using that code, the invite link (it arrives with the code already filled in) or the QR. You need at least 2 players.

2. Set up the game

The host chooses how many rounds to play (2 or 3) and how long there is to draw (60, 80 or 100 seconds). Each round, everyone draws once, in the order they joined the room. The words use the host's language.

3. Pick a word and draw

When it is your turn, you see three words and pick one. You have 15 seconds to decide; if you do not choose, the game takes the first one. Then you draw with your finger: nine colors, an eraser, three brush sizes, undo and clear. The golden rule: no letters or numbers, drawing only.

4. Guess by typing

Meanwhile, everyone else watches the drawing appear on their screen and types their guesses. Accents, capitals and an initial "the", "a" or "an" do not matter. If you are one letter off on a long word, the game tells you that you are close, without anyone else seeing it. Wrong guesses are visible to everyone, which gives away clues (and laughs).

5. The hints

At the top you see the word with one dash per letter. Halfway through, one letter is revealed and, on longer words, another at the three-quarter mark. Never more than a third of the word, so the drawer stays the star.

6. The points

A correct guess earns from 500 down to 50 points: the sooner, the more. The drawer gets 50 for every player who guesses right, so it pays to draw clearly, not cleverly. If everyone guesses before time runs out, the turn ends and the word is shown. At the end of the game, there is a podium and you can play again.
